A large number of people working across the globe spend their average workday standing or walking, possibly causing chronic foot pain. This can lead to having lower productivity, and many people look for ways to improve the quality of their day by having their feet feel better. People who work outside often need to wear work boots, and it is important they fit right and are comfortable. Looking for boots that are designed to relieve stress and target pressure points is necessary in reducing the risks of foot pain from working extended hours. The feet carry the weight of the body, and it is beneficial to maintain proper posture while walking throughout the day. This can help to take the weight off the bones, muscles, and tendons that are in each foot, possibly reducing additional stress. It is beneficial to take short breaks as often as possible, and it may help to slightly shift standing positions. If it is mandatory to stand for the duration of your work shift, please consult a podiatrist sooner rather than later for effective tips on how to manage foot pain from working.

While working on the feet, it is important to take the proper care of them. For more information about working on your feet, contact one of our podiatrists from Community Podiatry Group. Our doctors will treat your foot and ankle needs.

Working on Your Feet

Standing on your feet for long periods of time can cause stress and pain in your feet. Your whole body may experience change in terms of posture, back pain, bunions, callouses and or plantar warts. There are ways to avoid these conditions with proper foot care, smart choices and correct posture.

Positive Changes

Negative heeled shoe – Choosing this shoe type places the heel slightly lower than the ball of the foot. These are great for overall foot health. Find shoes that fit you correctly.

Go barefoot – Our feet were not designed to be enclosed for all hours of the day. Try to periodically expose your feet to air.

Eliminate Pain

Foot Exercises – Performing simple exercises, incorporating yoga and doing stretches are beneficial. This will allow increased blood flow to the area and muscles of the foot.

Achilles tendon – Stretching the foot out flat on the floor will relax the calf muscles and tendon. These exercises can be performed almost anywhere. Make sure you add these exercises to your daily regimen.

With a little bit of this information and knowing more about foot health, you will notice changes. Foot stretches and proper footwear will help with pain and prevent further issues.

Two Places Where Heel Spurs Can Form

A small bony protrusion on the heel may indicate a heel spur has developed. It is made of calcium and can happen from repeated stress on the plantar fascia. This is the portion of tissue that connects the heel to the toes and can become inflamed for various reasons. This can lead to developing a heel spur, which can cause severe pain and discomfort, despite its small size. There are two classifications of heel spurs, an inferior or posterior heel spur. They are different as a result of where they form on the heel. A posterior heel spur is found behind the heel, near the Achilles tendon. An inferior heel spur generally is located on the lower part of the heel, and may indicate existing plantar fasciitis. People can get heel spurs from running on uneven surfaces or from wearing shoes that have little support. Additionally, having arthritis and being overweight may lead to getting a heel spur. If you have heel pain, please consult with a podiatrist who can properly diagnose and inform you of prevention methods.

Heel spurs can be incredibly painful and sometimes may make you unable to participate in physical activities. To get medical care for your heel spurs, contact one of our podiatrists from Community Podiatry Group. Our doctors will do everything possible to treat your condition.

Heels Spurs

Heel spurs are formed by calcium deposits on the back of the foot where the heel is. This can also be caused by small fragments of bone breaking off one section of the foot, attaching onto the back of the foot. Heel spurs can also be bone growth on the back of the foot and may grow in the direction of the arch of the foot.

Older individuals usually suffer from heel spurs and pain sometimes intensifies with age. One of the main condition's spurs are related to is plantar fasciitis.

Pain

The pain associated with spurs is often because of weight placed on the feet. When someone is walking, their entire weight is concentrated on the feet. Bone spurs then have the tendency to affect other bones and tissues around the foot. As the pain continues, the feet will become tender and sensitive over time.

Treatments

There are many ways to treat heel spurs. If one is suffering from heel spurs in conjunction with pain, there are several methods for healing. Medication, surgery, and herbal care are some options.

Athlete’s Foot in Teens

Athlete’s foot is a fungal skin infection that thrives in damp, warm environments. It can cause annoying and uncomfortable redness, rashes, and flakiness between the toes and on the soles of the feet. This condition is contagious and can spread to other parts of the body or other people who encounter it. Athlete’s foot can affect people of all ages. Teens are a high-risk group because they are likely to participate in sports, walk barefoot in public places, and not be as careful about grooming their feet. Athlete’s foot usually goes away in a couple of weeks. However, treatment might be longer, especially if it becomes infected or impacts the toenails. Teens should be taught to keep their feet clean and dry, wear shoes in warm, wet public spaces, switch up which shoes are worn often to prevent moisture buildup, and change socks to ones made of material that wicks moisture away regularly. If your teen has athlete’s foot, it is suggested you take them to see a podiatrist who can treat it most effectively and efficiently.

Athlete’s foot is an inconvenient condition that can be easily reduced with the proper treatment. If you have any concerns about your feet and ankles, contact one of our podiatrists from Community Podiatry Group.  Our doctors will treat your foot and ankle needs.

Gout and Coffee

Many individuals across the country start their day with a hot cup of coffee. Fewer people, however, are aware of the interesting connection that coffee has with a foot condition known as gout. Gout is a particular kind of arthritis that primarily affects the big toe joint. Among people who do not already have gout, some individuals who consistently drank coffee over time experienced low risks of gout. However, among those who do already suffer from gout, sporadically drinking coffee might make you more susceptible to experiencing gout attacks. Therefore, coffee has an interesting, yet not immediately intuitive connection to one’s susceptibility to gout. If you have gout or want to learn more about its connection to coffee, contact a podiatrist today.

What Is Gout?

Gout is a type of arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid in the bloodstream. It often develops in the foot, especially the big toe area, although it can manifest in other parts of the body as well. Gout can make walking and standing very painful and is especially common in diabetics and the obese.

People typically get gout because of a poor diet. Genetic predisposition is also a factor. The children of parents who have had gout frequently have a chance of developing it themselves.

Gout can easily be identified by redness and inflammation of the big toe and the surrounding areas of the foot. Other symptoms include extreme fatigue, joint pain, and running high fevers. Sometimes corticosteroid drugs can be prescribed to treat gout, but the best way to combat this disease is to get more exercise and eat a better diet.
